3D Scanning for Migros’ 2017 Christmas Campaign
Finn made his first appearance in Migros’ 2017 Christmas campaign, and the character clearly landed… popular enough that Migros brought him back the following year with his parents in tow. We provided 3D scanning as part of the production pipeline that built him.
Scanning gave the animation team the reference data to build Finn and his world with the physical plausibility that makes animated characters actually convincing next to live-action footage… point cloud processing for the geometry, combined with high-resolution photogrammetry for the textured detail, not stylised in a way that reads as fake, but grounded enough to sit comfortably in the same frame as real people and real light.
Commercial production doesn’t have the luxury of a feature film schedule. Capture, processing and delivery all had to fit inside a compressed advertising timeline, with assets arriving ready for direct pipeline integration rather than needing further clean-up that would eat into an already tight turnaround.
A character becoming popular enough to be brought back a year later isn’t a given in advertising… most seasonal campaigns are one and done. Finn wasn’t, and the visual groundwork laid in 2017, ours included, is part of why the character had enough presence to earn a second year.
