3D Scanning and Drone Services Across Six Episodes
Moon Knight follows Marc Spector across contemporary London, Egyptian desert and some genuinely strange mythology-driven sequences… which meant the VFX team needed accurate environment geometry across a much wider range of settings than most Marvel series ask for. We provided 3D scanning and drone services across six episodes to support that.
We scanned London locations and constructed sets with terrestrial LiDAR for the digital set extensions, and used location and drone scanning to give the effects team a topographic foundation for the Egyptian-set sequences. In both cases, point cloud processing was just the starting geometry… we combined it with high-resolution photogrammetry to deliver the fully textured assets the effects team could build directly from, across two very different environments.
Deliverables were built to Marvel’s pipeline spec: registered point clouds, cleaned and processed meshes, HDR panoramas for lighting reference, all coordinated against the VFX supervisor’s shot list so nothing in the coverage got missed.
Marvel audiences are some of the most VFX-literate viewers there are… they’ve seen enough of this work to know when the join between real and digital isn’t quite right. Our job was giving the effects team a clean enough geometric base that the join was never something worth noticing in the first place.
