Scanning Period Environments for a Kingsman Prequel
The King’s Man is the WWI-set origin story of the Kingsman organisation… trench warfare and espionage dressed in the franchise’s usual heightened style. That mix of period authenticity and stylised action put real pressure on the environment work, and we provided additional scanning services to support it.
We scanned the film’s period environments with terrestrial LiDAR, from the English country estate to Central European palace interiors, then combined that point cloud data with high-resolution photogrammetry to deliver the fully textured assets VFX artists used to extend and digitally augment the physical sets. A prequel like this has to earn its place in the timeline; if the world doesn’t feel as real as the rest of the franchise, historical setting or not, it doesn’t work.
Deliverables were registered point clouds, processed meshes and HDR panoramic captures, formatted to the production pipeline and coordinated directly with the VFX supervisor to make sure the scan brief covered every period environment in the film.
Balancing WWI authenticity against Kingsman’s usual visual wit isn’t a small ask, and it rests on digital extensions that match the character of what was actually built on location… not just the geometry, but the feel of it. That’s the standard our scan data was held to across the film.
