3D Scanning Across Ten Episodes of Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso needed its football world to feel real to an audience that includes actual football fans… not a Hollywood approximation of what a stadium looks like. We provided 3D environment scanning across ten episodes of Season 3, capturing the stadium and ground environments the show is built on.
We scanned stands, pitches, exterior approaches and broadcast infrastructure with terrestrial LiDAR, then combined that point cloud data with high-resolution photogrammetry to deliver the fully textured assets the production needed to build convincing stadium-scale backgrounds and match sequences. Football fans notice when a stadium doesn’t sit right: wrong proportions, wrong sightlines, a pitch that reads as slightly too small. That’s exactly the kind of error real scan data rules out.
Deliverables were registered point clouds of the stadium environments, processed meshes for environment and background plate reference, and HDR panoramas for lighting, all formatted for the production’s pipeline and coordinated with the relevant departments across the season.
A show that’s as much about heart as it is about football only earns the emotional stakes if the footballing world underneath feels genuinely lived-in. Our scanning work across the season gave the production a real football world to set that story in… the kind of detail most viewers won’t consciously register, but would absolutely notice if it were wrong.
