Precision LiDAR Scanning Inside the Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster is about as high-stakes as heritage scanning gets… one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, and at the centre of one of the largest heritage restoration programmes in British history. We were engaged to provide precision LiDAR scanning inside the palace to support that work.

Scanning an active parliamentary building isn’t like scanning an empty listed structure. Access had to be coordinated around the parliamentary schedule, and every session was planned so scanning operations didn’t disrupt normal business… a logistics problem as much as a technical one, and one that needed a team who’d done this kind of work before.

We captured detailed geometry across the specified areas, producing a single registered point cloud with survey-accurate spatial data. That gave the architects and engineers on the restoration programme reliable dimensional information for planning, measurement and condition recording, without needing to keep returning to a building where every visit has to be arranged in advance.

Not every job comes with this much cultural and constitutional weight attached. Operating within the palace’s access protocols while still delivering survey-grade data is the kind of project that only really goes to a team who’ve already proven themselves on London’s most significant listed buildings… which is exactly the reputation we’ve built this on.
