3D Scanning for a Bob Marley Biopic

Bob Marley: One Love tells the reggae icon’s story with the blessing of the Marley family, released globally in 2024. We were brought in for special effects scanning… and on a biopic like this, where the audience knows the man and the era intimately, the physical accuracy of the sets carries real weight.

We scanned the production’s key sets and dressed locations using terrestrial LiDAR, producing millimetre-accurate point clouds as the starting geometry. From there we combined that data with high-resolution photogrammetry to deliver fully textured, VFX-ready assets… not just a base mesh, but surfaces the effects team could extend environments from beyond what the camera physically covered.

Deliverables followed our standard workflow: registered point clouds, processed meshes ready for direct pipeline use, and HDR panoramas from each scan position for lighting reference. Everything was handed over to the production’s naming conventions and coordinate system, so it dropped straight into the VFX team’s build without extra clean-up on their end.

One Love’s strength is in how lived-in it feels… the sets don’t announce themselves as sets. That’s the kind of thing that only happens when the geometry underneath is right, and it’s the part of the job we quietly enjoy most: getting it right so nobody notices we were there.
